Turbulent changes in the business environment cause the need to address issues of sustainability of business. The article looks at the negative impacts affecting business as well as at positive factors that on the contrary open up the development opportunities. The questions of the knowledge economics and the problems of generating new projects are discussed. A procedure linked recent developments with expert scenarios for the future is outlined. In the final part of the article the knowledge and innovative elements of business in the Moravian-Silesian Region are identified, which could contribute to sustainable business development.
