W artykule przedstawiono stan zaawansowania i dynamikę procesu starzenia się ludności w małych miastach i na obszarach wiejskich Polski na tle miast średnich i dużych. Do analizy wykorzystano udział ludności w wieku 65 lat i więcej, indeks starości demograficznej oraz wskaźnik starzenia się demograficznego Wsi, Podjęto próbę dokonania typologii obszarów zagrożonych starością demograficzną uwzględniając także wskaźnik dynamiki zaludnienia i wykorzystując metodę tablicy znaków.(abstrakt oryginalny)

The article aimed at the presentation of spatial distribution of population age-ing in small towns and rural areas against middle and large towns in new social-economic reality in Poland. An attempt was taken to make a typology of ageing in small towns and rural areas, including population dynamics. The basis of the analysis was intercensal period 1988-2002. Urban areas were divided according to their size into very small (with population less than 5 thous.), small (population between 5 and 20 thous.), middle (population between 20 and 100 thous.) and large (population 100 thous. and over). In 2002 the highest level of ageing was observed in rural areas located in north-eastern part of Poland. Among urban areas relatively high level of ageing was recorded in small towns. The highest dynamics of ageing process occurred in Podlasie region and in towns of different size. Presented typology of population ageing showed that small towns were mainly characterised by middle ageing hazard (type D) similar to middle towns, while rural areas prevailed in type E (with depopulation, low dynamics of ageing and high level of ageing). The distribution of large towns was completely different in this typology, they concentrated in types A and B with the highest ageing hazard.(original abstract)
