Technologia powszechnie uznawana jest za podstawowy czynnik determinujący procesy gospodarcze we współczesnym świecie. Decyduje o tempie i kierunkach rozwoju poszczególnych podmiotów (krajów), stwarzając nowe możliwości i pola do działań oraz formułując odmienne warunki konkurowania. Popytowe i podażowe źródła technologii generują coraz bardziej zaawansowane rozwiązania, których dyfuzja zmienia obraz współczesnego świata w każdym wymiarze.(fragment tekstu)

The article presents global tendencies of technology development around the world. There are three main areas up to 2020 in which science and technology are called for. These are employment in the context of globalization, universal public health, and sustainable development and the environment. Several technology areas for example nanotechnology, biotechnology and ICT have the potential to respond to this demand. The aim of the article is also answer the questions: which countries are in the global competition concerning technologies with a potential to address this emerging societal demand, which countries invest in which key technology areas?(original abstract)
