Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja czynników wpływających na przemiany instytucji politycznych oraz gospodarczych w krajach Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz byłego ZSRR w latach 1991-2014. Analiza postępów w zakresie transformacji gospodarczej (na podstawie wskaźników EBRD) oraz wolności politycznej (wskaźniki Freedom House) objęła 25 państw. Wyniki wskazują na istotny wpływ uwarunkowań kulturowych, integracji z organizacjami międzynarodowymi (UE i WTO) oraz prowadzenia konfliktów zbrojnych na tempo przemian. W przypadku procesu demokratyzacji krajów transformacji wskazano również na negatywny wpływ czynników wynikających z długości okresu funkcjonowania systemu socjalistycznego w danym państwie. The aim of the research was to identify the determinants that influence the economic and political changes in transition countries. The analysis using Hausman-Taylor estimator was based on a panel of 25 countries over the period from 1991 to 2014. The results show that cultural factors, accession to international organizations (EU and WTO) and wars have significantly influenced the pace of institutional changes in transition countries. Moreover, it was found that the number of years under central planning has had a negatively impact on the process of democratization. (original abstract)
