Abstrakty

This paper reviews empirical works on corporate research and development cooperation, focusing on the studies published in the years 2001-2015. The empirical literature devoted to corporate research and development cooperation three topical groups may be distinguished: (1) research on the impact research and development cooperation on corporate innovativeness, (2) research on corporate and market features in favour of launching research and development cooperation within the industry, (3) research on the impact of external corporate development investment on research and development cooperation within the industry (4) research on the impact on research and development cooperation on corporate profitability. The empirical studies indicate a positive relation between research and development cooperation and corporate innovativeness, though the existence and strength of this relation depend on the corporate innovativeness measure adopted by the authors of the research. The impact of (i) company size, (ii) market concentration degree, (iii) intensity of company spending on R&D as well as (iv) the kind of research conducted by the company on the R&D cooperation undertaken by the company is not explicit. The analysis of empirical works indicates that external effects of corporate development investment favour launching research and development cooperation within the industry. The empirical literature also indicates that companies cooperating within R&D achieve on the average lower margins than companies competing within R&D. (original abstract)
