All the decisions in marketing management boil down to the four basic components of the marketing mix: product, price, place (distribution) and promotion. A product can have many different features and quality levels. Different prices can be charged, with or without special discounts. Various advertising media as well as a company's own sales force or other sales specialists can be used. The information revolution have enabled marketers to create an individualized approach to the customer. This new marketing idea is based on the extensive use of databases, and refers directly to customers' behavior and preferences. The information stored in databases reflects the actual buying pattern, unlike the traditional approach, which was based on the reported, declared behavior. This reversal of thinking in marketing can be clearly seen in all four elements of the marketing mix. The article focuses on chosen real-life examples of the application of modern information technology in the area of marketing mix. (fragment of text)
