Price movements in international trade have attracted much attention for a long time, both in their practical (impact on individual economies) and theoretical aspect. The relations between the prices of primary commodities (raw materials and food) and the prices of manufactured goods, especially in a long run, is one of the topics of vivid discussions. The interest in price movements in international trade has signifi cantly increased in the current decade, which is related to a surge in the prices of raw materials and food, known as the commodity price boom. Since mid-2008, commodity prices have been plummeting, which - like the commodity price boom - has had a variety of consequences to both the global and individual economies. Those directions of prices changes require an indepth analysis to identify the differences and similarities to historic price movements observed for raw materials and food in international trade. The aim of the study is to analyse the major directions of changes in the prices of primary commodities in international trade in the current decade. An emphasis has been put on the description of the commodity price boom, its background and consequences, and a unique character of the current (2008-2009) price tendencies. The study is based on the sources and publications available at the UN (especially UNCTAD), IMF, and WTO. The most up-to-date data was used where available - for instance, certain statistics related to the structure of turnover (especially in commodities) are published with substantial delay.(fragment of text)

W opracowaniu przedstawiono kierunki zmian cen wyrobów podstawowych (primary commodities) w handlu międzynarodowym w obecnej dekadzie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem boomu surowcowego. Wyniki analiz wskazują, że wzrost cen - jakkolwiek bardzo silny i długotrwały - spowodował na ogół mniejsze konsekwencje, niż się początkowo obawiano (tempo wzrostu gospodarczego, inflacja), a także nie wywołał większych zmian w strukturze obrotów handlu międzynarodowego. Obserwowany obecnie - również bardzo silny - spadek cen primary commodities wiąże się ze zjawiskami recesyjnymi i wydatnym osłabieniem popytu światowego na te produkty. Jest on także wyrazem znacznego obecnie wzajemnego uzależnienia sektora fi nansowego i procesów zachodzących w gospodarce światowej i handlu międzynarodowym.(abstrakt oryginalny)
