Striving to achieve progress in implementing sustainable development is at present one of key objectives in the policies of countries as well as organizations. It is crucial to find the solutions beneficial to quality of life, economic growth as well as improvement in the environment condition. Thus, it is essential to monitor the changes occurring in the environment, society and economy with the use of relevant indicators, more and more often they are aggregate indicators. Therefore, this article assesses the progress made by Poland in developing towards sustainability in comparison with other Member States using selected aggregate indicators what is the main aim hereof. This article is based on the available references, government documents, reports and secondary data. (original abstract)

Dążenie do wzrostu poziomu zaawansowania realizacji rozwoju zrównoważonego stanowi obecnie jeden z podstawowych celów ujmowanych zarówno w politykach krajów, jak też organizacji. Istotnym w tym względzie jest poszukiwanie rozwiązań korzystnych dla jakości życia, wzrostu gospodarczego, jak i poprawy jakości środowiska przyrodniczego. Niezbędne jest zatem monitorowanie zmian zachodzących w środowisku, społeczeństwie i gospodarce za pomocą odpowiednich wskaźników, coraz częściej wskaźników tzw. syntetycznych. Wobec powyższego w artykule podjęto próbę oceny postępu Polski na tle pozostałych krajów UE na drodze do zrównoważenia przy wykorzystaniu wybranych wskaźników syntetycznych, co stanowi zasadniczy jego cel.
