Abstrakty

Koniec lat sześćdziesiątych przyniósł rosnącą popularność wszelkich "post-" występujących w formie przedrostka przed terminami opisującymi społeczeństwo kapitalistyczne. W artykule podjęto próbę charakterystyki terminów często stosowanych, szczególnie w latach osiemdziesiątych i na początku dziewięćdziesiątych, w obszarze nauk społecznych, próbujących opisać społeczne aspekty współczesnego kapitalizmu. Terminy te, często mylnie stosowane zamiennie, to postmodernizm i ponowoczesność. Uznanie tych terminów za synonimy wynika w dużej mierze z podobnego ich brzmienia w języku angielskim: postmodernism i postmodernity. Jednak są to terminy odnoszące się do różnych aspektów rzeczywistości. Najogólniej rzecz biorąc, ponowoczesność odnosi się do opisu społecznej i politycznej sfery rzeczywistości, określając w tych aspektach epokę, która następuje po epoce nowoczesności. Z kolei - przyjmując wysoki stopień ogólności analizy - postmodernizm odnosi się do produktów kulturowych (w sztuce, filmie, architekturze, obyczajach, stylu życia czy wreszcie w praktykach konsumenckich), które różnią się od produktów kulturowych epoki nowoczesności. Today we live amidst the "post". It is a postindustrial era, a postnuclear period, and there is postfeminism, postanalytic philosophy, and above all, postmodernism. This prefix describes Western society. Postmodernism can be regarded as a movement, style, and mood that reflect and parallel fundamental changes in the cultural condition of Western societies. While some see postmodernism as just a fashionable academic movement based in the life experiences of left university faculty, or a manifestation of postsixties political exhaustion and pessimism, others bеlіеvе that postmodernism needs to be understood as a theoretically suggestive yet ultimately inadequate response to the failures of the European Enlightenment. Postmodernism has also been associated with the positive evaluation of local and popular cultures, the minor traditions and the 'otherness' excluded by the universalistic pretension of the modern. This suggests an increasing sensitivity to the more соmрlех levels of unity, to the syncretism, heterogeneouity, and the common taken for granted, 'seen but unnoticed' aspects of everyday life. Of course, the sociology of everyday life cannot be reduced to an effect of postmodernism. Rather we should regard postmodernism as enhancing tendencies to transform the cultural sphere which gained a strong impetus from the 1960s. The rise of new social movements, feminism, ecology and the increasing significance of leisure and the quest for self-expression and self-realization not only pointed to the capacity to transform the institutions of public life, but also raised the profile of the life left behind. Everyday life, with its focus upon reproduction, maintenance, common routines, the sphere of women, receptivity and sociability has gained impetus with the problematization of the dominant legitimacy of the world of production with its emphasis upon instrumental rationality, transformation and sacrifice.
