The Beliefs of the Prairie Indians and Emotional and Spiritual Intelligence

We associate contemporary America more with world leading country than with its aboriginal inhabitants - American Indians. Despite difficult conditions in Indian reservations, where they live nowadays, many Indians still don't accept culture brought from Europe. They attempt to live according to the beliefs of their ancestors and principles that are very much different from white peoples' system of values. The foundation of traditional Indian philosophy of reality was the unity of visible and invisible world with prevailing role of the invisible one. The spiritual energy filling the whole world was a major factor influencing all spheres of life, way of thinking and vision of the world. It provided answers for all existential questions and gave advice how to live. The result of spiritual ехреrіеnсе was the motive of all actions and decisions. Even everyday activities such as housework, hunting or dancing, and also expressed words were full of sacral factor. Prayers, visions and dreams were used as the main means of contact with the spiritual world. That's why it was necessary to develop emotional aspect of life continually and with great awareness. Better and better understanding of experienced feelings and emotions was crucial to rесеivе the message from spiritual world. The significance of emotional intelligence mentioned above was perceived only very recently by "the Western Culture" - the Indians are much ahead of us in that matter. (original abstract)
