The article presents topical issues of integration of Latvia in the EU. It analyses the modem economic conditions that include the activity of such branches of national economy as building, transport, banking etc., which have high economic indices and positive influence on social level. It touches upon some problematic spheres of economy among which are the growth of industry, retail turnover, registered unemployment rate, inflation rate, direct foreign investments, balance of external trade, growth of wages. The characteristics of these issues gives an opportunity to forecast the social policy of the country as a member of the EU. Only the complex approach to the problem of national economy of Latvia can bring positive results in solving social problems and in raising the economy onto a higher level. (original abstract)
