The article aims to investigate the current state of art in the field of user-centered design and user experience (UX) evaluation techniques. We analyzed the articles and the used methods, and classified them according to their purpose and the appropriate phase of the web development life cycle (WDLC). Further analysis revealed that awareness of importance and benefits of evaluating user experience among both scientists and practitioners differs according to the development cycle phase (planning, prototyping, building/ developing, maintaining). The vast majority of papers concerned the development or maintaining phase. Most methods applicable in the development phase are also suitable for maintaining and optimizing interfaces. There is a scarcity of articles concerning pre-development phases. The role of evaluating UX as early as possible in creating user centered computer systems is underestimated. (original abstract)
