Lifelong learning (LLL), taking place in pre-retirement and retirement age of the people will play an increasingly important role in the context of social, economic and technological challenges of the nearest future. These problems have been recognized and LLL was included in the main strategic documents of Poland and the EU as a horizontal priority. However, the previous interventions in this field were ineffective and inefficient. The aim of the article is to analyse the development of the policy aimed at learning of older people. It includes the diagnosis of educational activity of elderly Poles, the individual and systemic conditions of this activity and the most important challenges for the development of public policy.
