Critical review of dictionaries in the context of LSP education

Abstrakty

For centuries dictionaries have been the first source of reference for professionals dealing with specialist discourse. Today, despite rising competition online, they are still the preferred reference tool for many professionals, including translators . However, dictionaries do not always serve their users well. To use dictionaries effectively one needs to understand the process of their compilation and, what follows, their strengths and weaknesses. Only then one is able to use the potential of dictionaries to the fuli. This article is a review of dictionaries available to professionals dealing with specialist texts, with particular focus on the problems and traps related to their use. In today's informa- tion-saturated world the ability to effectively use lexicographic sources is of key impor- tance for professionals dealing with specialist discourse, thus the contents (fragment of text)
