Przedstawiono sens ekonomiczny wydawania gwarancji ubezpieczeniowych. Wymieniono podstawowe zasady wydawania gwarancji ubezpieczeniowych oraz opisano techniczne aspekty wydawania tych gwarancji.

The underwriting of a bond always depends on a detailed examination which must be secured by additional collateral or developed to such an extent that the guarantor can expect in all probability that he will not have to make a payment and that he will be held harmless in the case of a payment having to be made. In a pure surety bond, the guarantor should dispel all foreseeable risks before writing the bond. No responsibility is taken away from the principal and passed on to the guarantor. The principal, by paying the premium, obtains the backing of a surety to guarantee the fulfillment of his contractual obligations. The principal still retains all of his obligations towards the obligee. Technically, bonding is banking business. Whereas particular insurance principles have been developed for commercial credit insurance, bonding follows banking practice. Bonding business is anti-selected from the beginning. This antiselection is heightened by the rivalry between insurers and banks. Theoretically and obligation (any contract) can be bonded. In practice, however, only a few bonds have proved to be acceptable for the guarantor. (original abstract)
