The Fishing Cooperative, Its Organization and Family Involvement

The fishing cooperative from Sinaloa is integrated with close family ties and in which the knowledge moves from one generation to the next one about the art of the coastal fishery. This paper presents results of study aimed at analyzing the way a group is organized through a cooperative federation and the role of families in the fishing camps operating in these economic entities. The information was collected through interviews with partners and managers and supplemented with the analysis of internal documents and reports of the cooperatives in this fisheries sector. The findings indicate that fishing cooperatives operate in rural areas and the families play a significant role since they integrate themselves generation trough generation in fishing and support activities. Moreover, the federation promotes the integration of solving common problems among cooperatives that comprise it. From the above, it is concluded that the fishing cooperative is a form of organization that offers to the families living in this fishing camps an alternative for the development of economic activities for income generation, contributing to the development of the town.
