The Make or Buy Dilemma - the Rationale for the Selection of International Production Strategy
Języki publikacji
Abstrakty
W artykule zarysowane zostały przyszłe obszary badań, których wyniki mogą przyczynić się do lepszego zrozumienia dylematu make or buy. (abstrakt oryginalny)
Companies can choose from a wide range of production strategies which enable using self-production (make), external suppliers (buy), or a hybrid approach (make and buy). The aim of this study is to systematise modern production strategies and to present the decision-making process of enterprises implementing international production strategies. The implementation of each concept is dependent on the strategic assumptions, the potential of the company and the impact of the external factors. Moreover, the presented model suggests that the international production strategy has basically an evolutionary character, being a consequence of the flexible approach of companies to emerging opportunities, constraints and risks resulting from changes in the company and in the industry, within the supply chain, in the home market and potential host markets, and in the global environment. The article outlines the future research areas, the results of which will contribute to a better understanding of the make or buy dilemma. (original abstract)
