Abstrakty
The article presents the most important definitions of a startup, developed within the environments of academics, entrepreneurs, investors, and business institutions. A startup development model has been proposed in it, main factors of its development have been indicated, and the concept of a startup's spiral definition has been presented. The fact that the definition of a startup is slightly different for undertakings at their initial development stage and those which are mature organizations, can be considered as the most important conclusion of the discussion. At the beginning of functioning, the key features of a startup include an unsound or non-existent demand and the entity's extremely limited internal resources. Whereas, at the advanced stage of development, an enterprise which takes advantage of market disruption thanks to which it achieves a hyper-scalability and a high company valuation, is the one that will be called a startup. Some startups, after finding their business model, transform themselves into different organizations for example micro-enterprises or corporations. Others remain startups for longer period, functioning in an extremely unstable and unsound market environment. The hyper-scalability is regarded as the key feature of a startup, which can be achieved at a later development stage thanks to the proper use of technologies automating selected operations or actions in terms of its market offer. That is why a specific feature of startups is the fact that they take advantage of advanced digital technologies, especially those concerning the broadly defined information processing.
