The article describes the use of self-organising, wireless sensor networks based on Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol application and its original improved version, designed for environment monitoring. The changes in the above mentioned protocol concern additional parameters and solutions related to the capacity of the mobile power source influencing the optimal choice of cluster heads in a cluster. The results achieved confirm the better use of energy resources of the system, which increases the wireless sensor network lifespan. (original abstract)
