In this paper, we try to answer, what is the legal status of an unmanned marine system under international law. First, we review various documents relevant to international law of the sea, in search for definition of a ship or other watercraft, broad enough to cover an unmanned marine system. Second, we try to find an answer on what international legal framework governs the navigation and certain activities of an UMS, as well as who bears international responsibility for any damage caused by it.
