Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie rozwoju horyzontów geograficznych starożytnych turystów greckich. Trwałymi elementami kultury greckiej były podróże, ciekawość i chęć poznawania świata. Przyczyniły się one w wielkim stopniu do narodzin turystyki w okresie klasycznym. Akcja kolonizacyjna, morski handel, podróże dla poszerzenia wiedzy i zwiedzania były czynnikami rozwoju horyzontów geograficznych turystów greckich. Warto zauważyć, że podróże handlowe, poznawcze i turystyczne często się przenikały. Rezultatem podbojów Aleksandra III Macedońskiego (Wielkiego) było rozszerzenie świata kultury greckiej na Bliski Wschód. Wywarło to wielki wpływ na rozwój horyzontu geograficznego, w tym także turystycznego oraz poszerzenie obszaru destynacji turystycznych. W ciągu kilkuset lat, od VIII w. p.n.e. do epoki hellenistycznej, terenem greckiej eksploracji turystycznej stało się nie tylko Morze Śródziemne ale i tereny Azji Mniejszej oraz Afryki północnej łącznie z Egiptem. Artykuł został podzielony na kilka części. Ukazują regiony ówcześnie znanego świata czyli oikumene oraz wiedzę, jaką na ich temat posiadali Grecy. Wraz z jej poszerzaniem następował rozwój horyzontu geograficznego turystów greckich. Kolejne części poświęcono literaturze geograficzno-krajonawczej, która wywarła wielki wpływ na rozwój turystycznej wiedzy o oikumene, oraz Homerowi - twórcy narodowego eposu jakim była Odyseja i "ojcowi literatury podróżniczej" - Herodotowi. This article aims at presenting the development of the geographical horizons of ancient Greek tourists. Travelling, curiosity and desire for exploring the world had been lasting elements of the Greek culture. Thanks to these features tourism came into being in the Classical period. Colonization efforts, sea trade, travelling for widening ones knowledge and sightseeing were the basis for the development of the geographical horizons of Greek tourists. During a few hundred years, from the 8th century BC to the Hellenistic period, the Greek tourist exploration area expanded beyond the Mediterranean Sea, to Asia Minor and North Africa, including Egypt. The article has been divided into a few parts. They picture the regions of the world known at the time, i.e. the oikumene, and the Greeks' knowledge in this respect. This knowledge contributed to the development of the geographical horizons of Greek tourists. Further parts address geographical and tourist guide literature that had significant impact on the development of tourist knowledge on the oikumene, as well as Homer - the author of the national epic poem, the Odyssey, and the "father of travel literature" - Herodotus.
