Abstrakty

Białucha to gatunek walenia zagrożony wyginięciem, który zmuszony jest zmierzyć się ze zmianami klimatu. Występuje tylko w regionach, w których lód morski występuje co najmniej sezonowo, co sugeruje silny związek z siedliskami z lodem morskim. Orki polują na biełuchy i uważa się, że zwarta pokrywa lodowa zapewnia im pewien stopień schronienia przed drapieżnikami. Do innych zagrożeń dla tego gatunku zalicza się połowy, zanieczyszczenia, hałas i choroby. Czy wykorzystamy wiedzę o tym gatunku i zdołamy go uratować? (abstrakt oryginalny)

The Beluga Whale is a species threatened with extinction, which is forced to face climate change. Belugas occur only in regions where sea ice occurs at least seasonally, suggesting a strong connection with sea ice influenced habitat. Killer Whales are known predators of Belugas and it is generally assumed that concentrated sea ice provides Belugas some degree of refuge from predation. Others threats for this species include fishing, pollution, noise and diseases. Will we use knowledge about this species and manage to save it? (original abstract)
