The article aims to identify shocks on the financial market (stock market booms and declines) with the method of frequency filters, as well as their impact on the real economy. The research refers to three categories of assets: stocks, bonds and derivative instruments on the selected European markets of diversified levels of development: Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Germany in the years 1991-2016. In real terms, the materialisation of systemic risk in the real economy, which occurs as a result of the bubbles created on the financial market, gives rise to many problems. Hence, the idea of empirical research attempting to estimate asymmetric rises in asset prices in comparison with their fundamental value. Thus, two research hypotheses were posed: H1: The more advanced the financial market, the less frequent the financial shocks on it. H2: Boom-decline episodes on the market of negotiable financial instruments are events of low frequency of occurrence, but of significant consequences for the real economy. The analysis proved that the creation of bubbles often results from the functioning and development of the financial market, and the course of this phenomenon depends on the kind of the financial asset. The market of stocks is most susceptible to boom-decline issues, which should draw the attention of macro-prudential regulators.(original abstract)
