For nearly fifty years, the European Union has been using the Generalised System of Preferences - a system which has undergone some changes throughout all this period. The changes introduced to the reformed system, which has been in force since 2014, aimed at concentrating preferences on countries considered to be the most in need and were designed not only to reflect a new configuration of power in the worldwide economy, in particular the growth of trade with emerging economies such as Brazil or China, but also to contribute to larger exports to the EU from these countries. This paper endeavours to answer a question as to whether the reformed GSP proposes a new scenario for trade exchange between system beneficiaries and the European Union or the changes implemented are not that significant and in practice they do not result in altered conditions of the beneficiaries' exports to the EU.
