Competitiveness of Family Rabbit Production in Central Mexico

Family Rabbits producers are unaware of the cost of producing one kilogram of meat, so their selling prices do not exceed that cost; Do not reach the minimum profitable scale, this contributes to have a negative net income. The objective of this work was to estimate economic and financial viability of family rabbit breeding, considering technical parameters, production costs, etc. By means of panels of producers [Sagarnaga et al. 2014], 3 URP cunicolas, with 20, 50 and 100 bellies, were formed by 10, 6 and 4 producers respectively, who provided information on technical management, Yields, prices, among other aspects. As a result we have to economically in the three units, food has the greatest weight within the cost structure. One of the most important conclusions is that at economic level the units are not viable, they present losses, which indicates that the factors of production are not remunerated, reason why their permanence in the long term and the level of competitiveness of the family rabbit breeding are uncertain.
