Many different kinds of automation are saving great amount of time and money in e-commerce. This paper gives an overview of the current applications and future of robots in e-commerce and discusses the various factors that that are important to choosing the best approach in 'last-mile-delivery'. It discusses advantages and disadvantages of autonomous vehicles, questions about safety and reliability and marketing effect. Automation at earlier stages of supply chain, less visible for clients has more impact on delivery process economics. (original abstract)
