The aim of the work is to analyze the foodservice industry, problems related to human resources and management in this industry and to present good practices related to effective human resources management on selected examples of family foodservice enterprises. The analysis presented here is based mainly on a dataset taken from the statistics published annually by CSO for foodservice businesses and human resources in this industry. A comparative method was applied for the analysis of collected data and materials. The study also used individual in-depth interviews made from April to December 2017 with managers or restaurateurs and their employees (82 people) covering 25 restaurants which can be classified as family business in Warsaw. It was found that, in fact, the success or even the survival of a business either in a foodservice industry or another one is heavily dependent on having an effective and efficient workforce. In the foodservice industry, it is vital for companies to perform better than their rivals in terms of level of customer satisfaction by having a superior customer service. In surveyed employers' opinion, trainings show employees that employers care about them. (original abstract)
