Autor artykułu podjął próbę dokonania analizy funkcjonowania wybranych klastrów w krajach Unii Europejskiej, USA i Polski. Celem tak postawionego zadania jest sformułowanie wniosków dotyczących dalszego rozwoju i zarządzania strukturami klastrowymi, które nadal są niedocenianymi czynnikami wsparcia przedsiębiorczości i rozwoju regionów. The experiences of the European Union member states indicate the importance of encouraging the competitiveness of regions. The position of the regions should be reinforced by acquired functions related to socio-economic development, so far performed by state structures. In the context of a progressive globalization, the regions' capability to create and adapt innovative organizational and technological solutions and the ability to accumulate and use knowledge is decisive for their development. This requires companies to collaborate and create networks of cooperation; regional and local authorities need to select appropriate measures to stimulate entrepreneurship. The success of a company is increasingly determined by spatial-functional relationships that influence the building of sustainable competitive advantages. Clustering structures are one of the forms of associations that create the potential for regional development. Thus, clusters become the primary tool for increasing competitiveness of economies. Cluster development should be a way for Polish regions to enhance regional development policy. Through cluster activities, regional policy strives for harmonious cooperation, the use of the potential of a territory, its material resources and institutions, and building competitive advantages of enterprises and the competitiveness of a region as a whole. The author attempted to analyse the functioning of selected clusters in the EU countries, USA and Poland. The purpose of such a task is to formulate conclusions about the further development and management of cluster structures, the still underestimated factors of support for entrepreneurship and regional development.
