W artykule koncepcyjnym podjęto próbę socjologicznego spojrzenia na wybrane aspekty konsumpcji żywności. Głównym celem opracowania jest refleksja teoretyczna nad wybranymi społecznymi uwarunkowaniami konsumpcji żywności i jedzeniem we współczesnym świecie. Realizacja założonego celu była możliwa dzięki zastosowaniu metody analizy krytycznej źródeł literaturowych krajowych i zagranicznych dotyczących konsumpcji żywności. W wyniku badań określono konsekwencje rosnącego znaczenia symbolicznego żywności i jedzenia na rynku; wskazano, iż żywność i jedzenie wykorzystywane są do budowy tożsamości indywidualnej i grupowej; opisano żywność jako istotny element identyfikacji kulturowej, omówiono wpływ ruchów konsumenckich promujących zdrową żywność na zachowania konsumpcyjne. Implikacją praktyczną przeprowadzonych badań jest wskazanie na potrzebę socjologicznych badań uwarunkowań społecznych konsumpcji żywności, co pozwoli na dogłębne poznanie zachowań ludzi dotyczących żywności i jedzenia. Natomiast implikacją społeczną opracowania jest uwypuklenie wpływu uwarunkowań społecznych na zachowania konsumentów. (abstrakt oryginalny)

In his conceptual article, the author undertook an attempt of a sociological look at some aspects of food consumption. The main objective of the study is a theoretical reflexion on some social determinants of food consumption and eating in the contemporary world. Achievement of the objective set forth was possible owing to the application of the method of critical analysis of the Polish and foreign literature sources related to food consumption. In result of research, the author determined the consequences of the growing symbolic importance of food and eating in the market; he indicated that food and eating are used for formation of individual and group identity; he described food as an important element of cultural identification and discussed the impact of consumer movements promoting health food on consumption- related behaviours. The practical implication of the carried out research is indication of the need of sociological studies on the determinants of food consumption, what will enable an in-depth knowledge of human behaviours related to food and eating, while the social implication is an emphasis of the impact of social determinants on consumer behaviours.
