Wschodnioazjatycki model rozwoju, w wyniku wdrażania którego niektóre gospodarki azjatyckie osiągnęły spektakularne wyniki rozwojowe, opiera się na koncepcji państwa rozwojowego. Państwo rozwojowe charakteryzuje się specyficznymi rozwiązaniami systemowymi i instytucjonalnymi. W zasadzie, funkcjonuje ono w warunkach ustroju kapitalistycznego (socjalizm nie jest w stanie w długim okresie wygenerować odpowiedniej dynamiki wzrostu), władze stosują jednak mechanizmy centralnego planowania, aby realizować własną strategię rozwojową. Państwowy interwencjonizm odgrywa tu zatem ważną rolę rozwojową, choć nie ma na celu zapewniania spójności społecznej. (abstrakt oryginalny)

The East Asian development model, as a result of which some Asian economies have achieved spectacular developmental results, is based on the concept of a developmental state. The developmental state is characterized by specific systemic and institutional arrangements. In principle, it functions in the conditions of 94 ANDRZEJ BOLESTA the capitalist system (socialism is not able to generate adequate growth dynamics in the long term); nevertheless, the authorities apply central planning mechanisms to implement their development strategy. Thus, state interventionism plays an important developmental role, although it is not intended to ensure social cohesion. (original abstract)
