Changes occurring in the last decades in the world of engineering, technology and economics, as well growing competitiveness of enterprises, also in the international scale, result in the need to constantly broaden knowledge acquired by managers across the world in the process of higher education. The world crisis, statutory extension of the work time before retirement, as well as more and more noticeable demographic low set additional challenges for the Polish universities. It is not only about educating the youth on the European level (which is also reflected in the new act on higher education), but also economic capability of functioning in general. The above mentioned need to broaden the knowledge of active management and employees of various organisations, but also of the unemployed, gives a chance and the opportunity to use the scientific and didactic potential of the academic staff also beyond the university as a part of so-called long life learning. It is advisable to take advantage of the long-term experiences of the western universities, including the French ones.(original abstract)
