The increasing occurrence of the concept of network in the management science literature, both as a research object, its context, research techniques, and as epistemological items declared in publications, has all the features of a fashion. This means that after a rapid popularity, the stability of which is however difficult to assess, a significant regression will follow. Still, networks provide considerable input in management sciences. They turn our attention to the regime of structures surrounding an enterprise, as well as to processes and roles typical for permanent patterns of inter-organisational interaction. They also contribute to the dissemination of structuralism, which significantly facilitated the development of social science and the humanities. Finally, networks provide new methodological challenges, among which the role of complexity and dynamics is particular.(original abstract)
