Context: As multiple research has shown, teamwork plays a significant role in achieving common results, both in real life, as well as in business simulations. However, only a limited number of empirical studies have been undertaken to understand the impact of individuals' personalities on the effectiveness of teamwork. These studies suffer from an important limitation as they lack a systematic and rigorous method to relate personality traits to the final effect of teamwork. The goal of this study is to examine whether team work influences the perception and assessment of specific personal characteristics. To explore the influence of individuals' personalities on teamwork effectiveness, we employed an empirical approach. A context-specific survey instrument was conducted on 155 participants - students who took part in a strategic economic game during their classes. Then their subjective assessment of selected personal characteristic was examined, in the context of the overall performance reached by their team. Assessments were measured before and after the game.(original abstract)
