The paper discusses the possibility of using selected financial indexes as controlling instrument in public organizations on the example of an educational institutions service team. The primary goal is to present the indexes related to the financial condition of a given unit. The authors show possible causes and suggestions for improvement the actual situation of the organization. The paper is based on background literature and the analysis of actual financial documents of the educational institution. The authors suggest the application of the selected financial indexes whose purpose is to signal threats to the financial situation, identify uncertain and crisis situations and predict the bankruptcy of the organization.
