Business models are becoming a more and more popular research subject. New concepts related to business models emerge and possibilities of their usage in business areas, where so far they have been present only informally, expand. One of such pioneering areas of knowledge where formalized business models start to emerge is the area of tourism enterprises' management. The aim of this article is to review the literature on business models, taking into account the research carried out in tourism sector. In this paper, the models based on knowledge, technology and innovation were characterized. First, the authors refer to historical assumptions concerning business models, then selected issues and approaches are presented, and finally literature references on business models in tourism sector are discussed.
