Abstrakty

During the last several years, the concept of a smart city has become increasingly popular in scientific literature. Cities play an important role in social and economic development, and have a great impact on the environment. This paper aims to present, based on an in-depth literature review, the concept of a smart city and its main dimensions in reference to the types of generated and implemented innovations. The conceptual layout of a smart city has been complemented with the results of empirical research initiatives - carried out both in Poland and abroad - evaluating the degree of intelligence of cities, including Polish ones. The results presented in the paper clearly indicate that the idea of a smart city in Poland is still a challenge for the future. (original abstract)
