Technological progress is blurring the boundary between fiction and reality. Virtual reality through the main components: visualization, immersion, interaction creates conditions that can be used in many ways in tourism. The aim of the article is to exemplify areas of research based on a diverse perspective: different subject of research, various VR tools and different sources of motivation to adopt this technology in tourism. Specific research questions have been identified: what can be displayed in VR, why virtual reality is worth attention, who is interested in using VR in tourism, how VR can be experienced. Answers given in this work to the above questions may be guidelines for further research in this area. (original abstract)
