Impact of Generational Diversity on Leadership

Generational diversity in present-day organisations which employ post-war baby boomers or X, Y and Z generations provokes reflection on the style of leadership suitable for such diverse teams. One of the key issues is leadership, in particular, directions in which it evolves and indication as to what competences are indispensable for future leaders. This article attempts to determine what challenges leaders will have to face in terms of generational diversity and how leadership is going to evolve when faced with these challenges and taking into account differences between generations. Desk research analysis and results of own study conducted with the use of qualitative methods provide the basis for the deliberations. The analyses conducted made it possible to determine the attributes of leadership that are characteristic for leaders in different generations. (original abstract)
