Abstrakty

Ekonomistów niepokoi rosnący bliźniaczy deficyt Stanów Zjednoczonych oraz powiększające się rezerwy walutowe państw azjatyckich i krajów OPEC. Argumentuje się, że gospodarka amerykańska, jako największy importer kapitału, żyje na kredyt innych państw, co w dłuższym okresie jest nie do utrzymania. Narastanie i intrygująca trwałość nierównowagi bywa wyjaśniana za pomocą kilku hipotez. Część z nich upatruje źródeł nierównowagi w samych Stanach Zjednoczonych, a część koncentruje się na przyczynach leżących poza gospodarką tego kraju. Problematyka nierównowagi rodzi pytania: dlaczego kraje biedne eksportują kapitał? Jak to możliwe, że w USA przez tyle lat utrzymywała się niska inflacja? Co sprawia, że nierównowaga światowa utrzymuje się tak długo? Celem artykułu jest naświetlenie podłoża globalnej nierównowagi od strony teoretycznej i praktycznej oraz przeanalizowanie jego możliwych konsekwencji dla gospodarki światowej, a szczególnie - dla perspektyw wzrostu. W opracowaniu postawiono tezę, że nierównowagę wywołuje splot różnych czynników i żadna z formułowanych w literaturze teorii nie jest w stanie w pełni jej wyjaśnić. (abstrakt oryginalny)

Economists are concerned about growing twin deficits in the US and rising international reserves of Asian and OPEC countries. There are some arguments that American economy being a biggest importer of Capital lives at the other countries' expense, something that could not be countinued in the long run. An increase and intriguing stability of global imbalances are explained by several hipothesis. Some of them seek the causes of imbalances in the US. and some concentrate on the sources situated outside of American economy. Issues of global imbalances are tight connected with several interesting questions: why developing cuntries export Capital? How was it possible, that inflation in the US persist so long on low level? What causes the sustainability of global imbalances? The aim of the article is to explore the reasons for global imbalanses from theoretical and practical point of view and to analyse their possible effects on global economy in particular on growth perspectives. The thesis proposed in the article is that global imbalances are caused by a series of developments and none of the theories formulated in the literature is able to clarify them fully.
