Idea rozwoju Smart City ma już ponad dekadę, mimo wyraźnego wzrostu dynamiki dyskusji w ostatnim okresie. Naukowcy i praktycy na świecie są zgodni, że koncepcja Smart City osadzona jest w dwóch światowych trendach, w którym pierwszy - mający znamiona problemu globalnego - odnosi się do tendencji do koncentracji ludzi w miastach, drugi zaś skupia się na kreowaniu zbioru rozwiązań ułatwiających życie i podejmowanie kariery w miastach przy zaadaptowaniu nowoczesnych technologii. The Smart City concept has already been established in the subject literature and, after more than a decade of theoretical considerations, begins to clearly enrich itself with numerous examples of technologies and solutions used. It is general result of the rapid expansion of IT technologies, especially the Internet, and the technology that allows direct connection a large number of devices to the network. The combination of both trends result with huge amount of data, which during further processing with implementation of IT technologies allow us to change the world. How businesses can operate in this world, what they can do and what values for the business bring the Smart City concept, is outlined in general in this article. It leaves the reader aware of the global trends that stimulate the emergence of Smart cities, as well as examples of technologies that can be developed and monetised by enterprises. The introduction to the article is an overview of selected Smart City definitions. (original abstract)
