Due to the increasing process of aging of world's population, particularly observed in the most advanced countries, there is a growing interest in the trend from the part of scientists, practitioners and authorities in various countries and regions. For this reason, the issue of tourist activity of the elderly has become more and more frequently mentioned in the international literature on tourism. It is said that, globally, we are dealing with the phenomenon of generational shock, which is a major change in the behaviour of seniors. This is due to entering the retirement age of the post-WWII generation that is characterized by different needs, aspirations and behaviours in comparison to previous generations. A review of international literature has been made and some of the factors influencing on the participation of seniors in tourism have been identified in examples from different countries. Using existing research concepts, the author of this article, makes an attempt to identify the selected factors affecting the tourist activity of seniors on the example of Innsbruck, Cracow and Szczecin. The survey results let determine the particular factors affecting forms of tourist activity undertaken by seniors visiting the selected cities. (original abstract)
