Abstrakty

Warto zwrócić uwagę na fakt, że po wielu dziesięcioleciach polityki promowania nowej formy organizacji społeczeństwa, wspólnoty religijno-etniczne nadal stanowią na Bliskim Wschodzie bardzo ważną formę integracji społecznej. W XX w. zostały pozbawione przez władze państwowe funkcji edukacyjnych i prawnych, a nacjonalizacja własności prywatnej osłabiła w wielu krajach ich bazę ekonomiczną. Pomimo tego, wspólnoty są ciągle bogatymi instytucjami, posiadającymi swoje budynki, ziemie i ruchomości, zachowują też wielki wpływ na życie codzienne ludzi przez formowanie wzorców etycznych, żywotność prawa zwyczajowego, edukację (szkoły religijne, szkółki "niedzielne") oraz określanie granic tego, co społecznie dozwolone, a co nie - głównie przez zwyczaje małżeńskie.(fragment tekstu)
