Turkey has experienced a boom in its movie industry since the beginning of 2000s. The number of movie viewers in the movie theaters has increased by 360 per cent in the last 15 years. This paper attempts to comprehend and analyze the determining socioeconomic background of this enlargement. We use a unique data set and implement dynamic panel data estimation methods. The results suggest, as expected, that the control variables, such as education, income, number of college students and the expansion in the mall industry help us to understand the increasing numbers of visitors in Turkish movie theaters.(original abstract)
