The article presents the problem of interpretation of the heritage of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone by a local tour guides. The text is the result of a research project whose purpose was to answer the question of whether Chernobyl guides use their own biography when creating a narration for tourists and how the inclusion of personal information translates into a style of touring the CEZ and, as a consequence, presenting the dissonant heritage to tourists. It was assumed that taking into account biographical elements is one of the strategies characteristic for the interpretation of heritage. According to the concept of Tilden, interpretation should be based on facts, but nuance the meanings, which as a result provokes thinking and [auto) reflection. Therefore, it was stated that the inclusion of a biographical perspective makes visitors to experience different emotions, primarily greater empathy, which translates into a better understanding of the complexity of Chernobyl issues.
