Abstrakty
Unia Europejska, by przetrwać, musi dowodzić swej użyteczności dla zwykłych ludzi. Zawierzenie elitom budowało wspólnotę europejską w czasie "zimnej wojny" i przez następne dekady, bo dawało poczucie bezpieczeństwa i wzrost dobrobytu. Stąd zaufanie, że europejskie elity prowadzą kraje członkowskie w dobrym kierunku. Kryzys gospodarczy i migracyjny podważył zaufanie. 60-lecie Unii13 było już świętem elit. Mieszkańcy Europy nie świętowali na ulicach, bo Unia, w ich odczuciu, stała się odległym siedliskiem eurokratów w Brukseli. To był widomy znak, że kończy się czas zawierzenia w nieomylność elit. Jesteśmy świadkami końca tej ufności, która budowała wspólnotę europejską od czasu jej narodzin, w postaci Wspólnoty Węgla i Stali. Zatem o trwałości wspólnoty ponad granicami zdecyduje jej użyteczność dla zwykłych ludzi, poddana szczególnej próbie w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Wtedy też uwierzą, że żaden kraj członkowski w pojedynkę nie podoła wyzwaniom XXI wieku!(fragment tekstu)
To survive, the European Union must prove its usefulness for ordinary people. Leaving things to the elites built the European community during the Cold War and for the following decades, because it gave a feeling of security and increasing well-being. Thus there was confidence that the European elites were leading the member countries in the right direction. The economic and migration crises undermined this confidence. By the time of the EU's 60th birthday,13 it was a festival of the elite. The residents of Europe didn't celebrate on the streets, because the EU, they felt, had become the distant domain of the Eurocrats in Brussels. This was a visible sign that the time of trust in the elites' infallibility was ending. We are witnessing the end of the confidence that built the European community from the time of its birth in the form of the Coal and Steel Community. So the survival of a cross-border community is determined by its usefulness for ordinary people, which is subjected to a severe test in crisis situations. Then they will also believe that no member state can take on the challenges of the 21st century on its own.
