This issue of Human Resource Management is devoted to employee performance management (PM). The concept of PM at the individual (employee) level has evolved simultaneously with the concept of PM on the organizational level. Two parallel trends can be seen in the development of the modern concept of employee performance management (PM). The first is an orientation on goals or aims, the second orientation is on behaviors. Both these trends have been intertwined over the last decades and complement each other, making it difficult to clearly segregate them. It should be emphasized, however, that goal orientation exposes issues of measuring employee work efficiency. Behavior orientation emphasizes the importance of the process of implementing actions aimed at achieving goals set for employees. (fragment of text)
