Abstrakty

Na pierwszym miejscu wśród głównych przyczyn wymierania gatunków jest wycinanie lasów. W kolejnych najnowszych raportach instytucji światowych, największych ośrodków badawczych, postulat zaprzestania deforestacji pojawia się jako jedno z kluczowych działań, koniecznych, aby zaradzić kryzysowi klimatycznemu i środowiskowemu. Dwóch badaczy z Chile i Wielkiej Brytanii wykorzystując modele komputerowe oszacowało, że jeżeli obecne tempo wycinki obszarów leśnych utrzyma się, naszej cywilizacji pozostało od dwóch do czterech dekad do ostatecznego upadku. Symulacje numeryczne wskazały na mniej niż 10% możliwości na to, że przetrwamy katastrofę. Niewielką nadzieję na uniknięcie czarnego scenariusza daje realizacja wielkiego planu reforestacji planety. Deforestation is in the first place among the main causes of extinction. In the latest reports from world institutions and the largest research centers, the postulate to stop deforestation appears as one of the key actions necessary to deal with the climate and environmental crisis. Two researchers from Chile and the UK, using computer models, estimated that if the current pace of deforestation continues, our civilization has two to four decades to its final collapse. Numerical simulations showed a less than 10% chance that we would survive the catastrophe. There is little hope of avoiding the worst-case scenario by implementing the grand plan to reforest the planet. (original abstract)
