Abstrakty

Muzyka w życiu młodzieży odgrywa rolę szczególną. To, co dla nastolatków kryje się w tym pojęciu, to często o wiele więcej niż szeroki wachlarz zjawisk dźwiękowych, łączących się z przeżyciami estetycznymi. Muzyka staje się wytyczną stylu życia, światopoglądu. Jest istotnym elementem wizerunku, podkreśla poczucie tożsamości i przynależności do grupy; wybory w obrębie muzyki określają pozycję w młodzieżowej społeczności. Preferowanie niektórych gatunków silnie łączy się z identyfikacją z daną subkulturą. Wybory muzyczne są rozmaicie wartościowane w zależności od środowiska, ocenie często podlega nie tyle gatunek, ile jego słuchacze. Na podstawie podobieństw w tym zakresie młodzi ludzie zawierają przyjaźnie1. Zwolennicy danego stylu nierzadko mają w pogardzie fanów innych nurtów. Emocje związane z tymi zagadnieniami bywają niezwykle gorące. Wykonawcy muzyczni stają się autorytetami, podziw słuchaczy prowadzi do chęci naśladowania zachowań gwiazd muzycznych. Kontakt z muzyką i jej kulturową otoczką staje się ważnym wyznacznikiem jakości życia współczesnych nastolatków (jakość życia ujmuję tutaj zgodnie z definicjami utożsamiającymi ją z subiektywnym poczuciem stopnia zaspokojenia potrzeb indywidualnych2).(fragment tekstu)

Music plays important part in adolescents' life. Young people tend to identify with the artists and their lifestyle; they also build friendships and social groups based on music preferences as crucial criterion. Teenagers consider music as their passion, and they use it not only for fun, but also to release tension and express emotions. Current research shows some diagnostic potential of music preferences. Teachers and other care givers are not always aware of this fact and tend to avoid or criticize music genres that they do not enjoy or understand. This article provides with overview of the newest research results regarding music preferences and its relation to personality and substance abuse vulnerability. It discusses the findings of the studies presented and concludes that the better we know the music of young people the closer to their world experiences we can get.(original abstract)
