Abstrakty

Temat niniejszego artykułu brzmi nieco intrygująco. Katolicyzm społeczny rozumiany jako ruch rozwijający właściwą sobie działalność, inspirowany przez określoną ideologię, ujęty w odpowiednie ramy organizacyjne ma za sobą już dłuższą historię z jej kolejnymi fazami rozwojowymi, których końcowym etapem jest jego obecność w aktualnej rzeczywistości społecznej. Jak zatem rozumieć "współczesną potrzebę" tegoż katolicyzmu? Problem, jest jednak bardziej złożony, aniżeli z pierwszego wejrzenia mogło by się wydawać. Z tego też powodu ostateczne wyjaśnienie aktualności tematu "O współczesnej potrzebie katolicyzmu społecznego" zostanie podane w formie konkluzji niniejszej wypowiedzi w ostatnim jej paragrafie. The subject viewed as a "contemporary need", a type of "today" of Social Catholicism is considered by the author with the background of historical perspectives on this catholic thought movement and actions. The historical role of bishop Emmanuel v. Ketteler is particularly prominent, for he not only noticed the social importance of, at that time contemporary, "worker's problem", but opposing socialism, he developed the Christian doctrine about the rights of workers to partake in the goods produced by them. He also proposed the postulate of trade workers' organizations. This meant the formation of a new social catholic movement that stood in defense of worker's interests and rights, which were abused by capitalism by pursuing the maximum profit. This movement had its authority sanctioned by the encyclical "Rerum novarum" by Leon XIII. Further considerations are dedicated to inter-war fate of the Social Catholicism, which continued to face the problem of the disastrous situation of the proletariat. Pius XI approved this in the encyclical "Quadragesimo anno" which particularly emphasised the necessity of system's reform in the economical domain. In the last part of the article the author develops a thesis, that the second "technical-industrial revolution" of automation and computerization, with the same liberal economy as before, has yielded the renewal of the harmful situation affecting the society in general, particularly the workers' realm and the poor. The present state justifies the necessity of Social Catholicism as being implemented into the spirit of the principles of the social doctrine of the Church. (original abstract)
