Abstrakty

Makiawelizm (Christie, Geis, 1970) i psychopatia (Cleckley, 1982) to dwa konstrukty opisujące człowieka, który w kontaktach z innymi przejawia wysoce egoistyczny, oparty na fałszu, oszustwie i manipulacji styl interpersonalny. Badania nad makiawelizmem i psychopatią prowadzone były w ramach odrębnych dyscyplin naukowych: psychologii społecznej i osobowości oraz psychiatrii i psychologii klinicznej. Makiawelizm najczęściej traktowany jest jako wymiar, któremu nie przypisuje się związków z patologią, a bada się go w populacji ogólnej, często na grupach studentów. Terminem "psychopatia" opisuje się patologiczne cechy osobowości, silnie powiązane z antyspołecznym zachowaniem, stąd początkowo badania nad psychopatią prowadzone były głównie na populacji więźniów. Dopiero ostatnio podejmowane są badania nad niekryminalnymi, "subklinicznymi" formami psychopatii w populacji ogólnej, a zainteresowanie tą problematyką stale rośnie. Owa zmiana paradygmatu była możliwa dzięki uzupełnieniu klasycznego, kategorialnego ujęcia psychopatii (zgodnie z którym do grupy psychopatów klasyfikuje się ludzi na podstawie listy symptomów) ujęciem dymensjonalnym (psychopatia traktowana jako wymiar) i wprowadzeniu miar opartych na samoopisie. Badania prowadzone metodą kwestionariuszową szybko uwidoczniły podobieństwo makiawelizmu i psychopatii, znajdujące swój wyraz zarówno w warstwie opisu - w eksponowaniu w obu przypadkach dystansu i chłodu emocjonalnego w kontaktach z ludźmi oraz manipulacji interpersonalnej - jak i w konsekwentnie uzyskiwanych umiarkowanych korelacjach między miarami obu konstruktów. Niełatwo natomiast stwierdzić, co odróżnia makiawelizm od psychopatii, prócz tego, że jedynie psychopatia kojarzona jest z patologią. Niektórzy badacze przyjęli więc założenie, że konstrukty te są tożsame. Jednak badania obydwu właściwości jako komponentów tzw. ciemnej triady osobowości raczej nie potwierdzają tej opinii. Pytanie o ich specyfikę nadal pozostaje więc otwarte. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest porównanie wyników badań nad makiawelizmem i subkliniczną psychopatią w poszukiwaniu ich odrębności. The aim of this article is to compare two partly overlapping personality variables - Machiavellianism and subclinical psychopathy. Individuals with these traits share tendency to be callous, selfish and manipulative. Some researchers argued that, in nonclinical samples, these two variables are equivalent. The author presents a review of the theories and studies confirming discriminant validity of the Machiavellianism construct. (original abstract)
